A SouthernWedding Tradition

Couples planning to wed at Barnsley Resort take part in the unique Southern tradition of "Burying the Bourbon," intended to keep the rain away on the big day. About a month before their wedding day (or on the day of their menu tasting), the bride and groom-to-be place a bottle of bourbon inside a wooden box to be buried upside down near the designated Bourbon Tree (which gets its name from its tipsy-looking, near-horizontal trunk). On the night of the rehearsal dinner, the box is dug up and the bourbon is enjoyed by the couple and wedding party as they toast to a beautiful wedding day ahead. "Burying the Bourbon" is offered complimentary to couples planning both their wedding reception and rehearsal dinner at Barnsley Resort.
